Mobile testing: in development

Mobile testing is under the hammer. As of 2.8.0 MaxTAF can write and run tests against native Android apps, in the same projects, suites and schedules as your web tests. Maximo Mobile is the target, and it is on the roadmap rather than in the box.

01 WHAT IT IS

A real app on a device image.

A case's Platform can now be set to Android as well as Web. MaxTAF installs the app build you give it and drives the real app on a device image, through Appium, the open standard for mobile automation. The rest is unchanged: the same Script tab, the same Run button, the same run history and reports.

This is a general capability. It is not yet tuned to Maximo Mobile, which is a hybrid app with its own sign-in flow, and that work is what comes next.

02 WHY WE BUILT IT

Android now, Maximo Mobile next.

The mobile app is where a lot of Maximo's real work happens, and it is the hardest part of the estate to test by hand, because someone has to pick up a device. So in practice it tends not to get tested, and the first sign of a problem is a technician who cannot sign in.

Web testing in MaxTAF is mature. Extending the same projects, suites and schedules to mobile means the field app can join the same regression, rather than needing a second tool and a second team.

Teams with other native apps can use it today, and early engagements set the order we build in.

03 WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU

What you can do today.

Write and run mobile tests

Author a case, set its platform to Android, and run it like any other case.

Keep one toolset

Mobile cases sit in the same projects, suites and schedules, with the same run history and reports.

Shape the Maximo Mobile work

If Maximo Mobile is what you need, tell us. Early engagements set the order we build in.

04 GETTING STARTED

Up and running in four steps.

  • STEP 01

    Talk to us first

Mobile is set up per engagement, so we agree the app, the build and the environment with you before anything is switched on.

  • STEP 02

    Send us a build

An installable Android build of the app you want to test, matching the version your users run.

  • STEP 03

    Start with sign-in

Get one case signing in and reading a screen, then add the journeys your users run most.

Where we are today

Android is available now. iOS and Maximo Mobile are in development and not yet available. We would rather say that plainly than have you find out on a device.
